SuperGrok payment declined: why your Grok subscription fails and what to try
You try to upgrade to SuperGrok, or to an X Premium tier for Grok on X, and the card is declined. Before you try another card, find out who is actually billing you. Grok can be paid in three places, by three different companies, and each one has its own payment rules and its own support. This guide sorts that out, then covers the free fixes to try first and what to do if none of them work.
What SuperGrok is and who bills you
xAI describes SuperGrok on grok.com/plans this way: "With SuperGrok you get significantly more access to our premium models and early access to new features." On x.ai/grok: "Free to try on the web and in the apps. Upgrade to SuperGrok for higher limits and multi-agent reasoning." There are higher tiers too, such as SuperGrok Heavy. Where you subscribe decides who charges you (checked 10 October 2026):
- grok.com in a browser. xAI charges your card directly through a web checkout. Payment and subscription questions go to xAI: its consumer FAQ says to contact [email protected] for "subscription issues".
- The Grok app on iPhone or Android. An in-app subscription is charged by Apple or Google to the payment method in your Apple or Google account. A decline there is about that account's payment method, and the store handles it, not xAI.
- X Premium and Premium+. These are X subscriptions. xAI's FAQ says: "SpaceXAI is a separate company from X Corp." (xAI's legal pages now use the name SpaceXAI.) X's purchaser terms say you can pay for X Premium "via: (i) Apple in-app purchase (if you sign up using an iOS-based device), (ii) Google’s in-app purchase (if you sign up using an Android-based device), or (iii) using Stripe, X’s third party payment partner (if you sign up using a web browser at www.x.com)." X has bundled Grok features with its Premium tiers, but what each tier includes changes; check the plan page before choosing between Premium+ and SuperGrok.
What happens after a failed payment also depends on the seller. xAI's consumer terms: "If your payment is not successful, we may downgrade your account or suspend your access to the Service until payment is received." X's purchaser terms for Premium: "If your payment information is declined, you must provide new payment information for your X Premium subscription or your subscription will be canceled."
Country rules apply as well. xAI says paid plans are available "Depending on your location", and X says you may only buy a paid service if "you live in a country supported by X for the applicable Paid Service." If the plan is not offered in your country, no card will fix that, and neither can we.

OrderWhat to try first
- Read your bank app, not the checkout screen. Most banks log the refused attempt with a reason: foreign merchant blocked, limit reached, verification failed. That tells you more than any decline message.
- Approve the bank verification. If your bank asks for a 3D Secure confirmation by app or SMS, approve it in time. If no request arrives, ask the bank to enable 3D Secure for online payments.
- Turn on online and international payments for the card. Many banks issue cards with these off. For a USD charge, also check the card's foreign-currency limit.
- Use a regular debit or credit card instead of a prepaid or virtual one. Card checkouts can be set to refuse prepaid cards, and a refused prepaid card usually shows the same generic decline.
- In the app, fix the store's payment method. For an App Store or Google Play subscription, update the card in your Apple or Google account. The card you type on grok.com plays no part there.
- Try the other channel. If the store keeps refusing your payment method, the web checkout on grok.com may accept a card the store would not, and the other way round. Have only one active subscription at a time so you don't pay twice.
- Don't retry ten times. Repeated attempts in a row can trigger fraud blocks at the bank. Try once after each fix, then write to [email protected] for SuperGrok, or to X support for Premium.
Most card checkouts fail for the same handful of reasons; see "Your card does not support this type of purchase", ChatGPT card declined and ElevenLabs payment declined.
When nothing works: we pay it for you
Paidrelay pays subscriptions on your own account, and you pay us in crypto. SuperGrok is not in our fixed catalog, so you order it as Other service:
- You type the plan price from the grok.com checkout into the order form. Your total is the plan price plus our 5% fee, shown as one number before you pay.
- You send us the payment link from the grok.com checkout. We pay it with our card, and the plan is applied to your own account.
- If there is no link to share, sign-in is the last resort: you stay online with us, send the verification code yourself, and change your password afterwards. Sharing a login breaks most services' terms; xAI's terms say "You may not share your account credentials or make your account available to anyone else", so the account could be restricted. You decide whether to accept that.
The same route applies to an X Premium tier bought on x.com in a browser. We do not buy gift subscriptions for X, and we cannot pay a subscription billed by the App Store or Google Play, because those charge the payment method in your own Apple or Google account. Personal plans only: Grok business or team seats and xAI API credits are not sold. Our card stays on the subscription for renewals until you change it.
Delivery is usually within 2 hours of payment confirmation, 09:00–21:00 UTC, and at most 24 hours. If we can't complete the payment for your plan, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, minus only the network fee of the refund transfer. We do not serve Russia, Belarus, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Syria or Venezuela, and the plan must be offered in your country. Coins and networks are on paying in crypto.

OrderQuestions
Is SuperGrok the same as X Premium?
No. SuperGrok is sold by xAI on grok.com and in the Grok apps. X Premium and Premium+ are sold by X on x.com and in the X app, under X's own purchaser terms. xAI's terms say X Premium charges are not part of its service. X has bundled Grok features with its paid tiers, but what each tier includes changes, so check the plan page before you pay.
My Grok subscription is through the App Store. Who do I contact?
Apple. A subscription bought inside the iPhone app is charged to the payment method in your Apple account, and Apple handles the payment and its decline. The same goes for Google Play on Android. Fix the payment method there, or subscribe on grok.com instead after the store subscription ends, so you don't pay twice.
What happens if a SuperGrok renewal fails?
xAI's terms say that if your payment is not successful, it may downgrade your account or suspend your access until payment is received. For X Premium, X's terms say that if your payment information is declined, you must provide new payment information or the subscription will be canceled.
How does Paidrelay pay for SuperGrok?
SuperGrok is an other-service order. You send us the payment link from the grok.com checkout and we pay it with our card, so the plan lands on your own account. Sign-in is a last resort, done while you are online, and you change the password afterwards; xAI's terms forbid sharing account credentials, so the account could be restricted. We cannot pay subscriptions billed by the App Store or Google Play.
What happens if you can't pay my SuperGrok plan?
If we can't complete the payment for your plan, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, minus only the network fee of the refund transfer.
