How to pay for ChatGPT Plus from Pakistan

ChatGPT works in Pakistan, and ChatGPT Plus is billed in U.S. dollars. Many Pakistani cards are still declined at the checkout, usually with "Payment was not approved" or "Your card has been declined". Here is why, what to try first, and how to pay if no card works.

Why Pakistani cards are declined

OpenAI lists Pakistan among its supported countries (https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/supported-countries, checked 4 October 2026), and its help centre says credit and debit cards are accepted in all countries. The block is almost always on the card side.

OpenAI bills in dollars through Stripe, from abroad. According to bank notices and press reports (secondary sources, not something we can quote from the State Bank directly), the State Bank of Pakistan and the banks have placed caps on foreign-currency spending with Pakistani cards, and many banks keep international online payments off unless you ask. When a charge hits one of those limits, the bank declines it and Stripe passes on a short message:

• "Your card has been declined" or "Payment was not approved" — usually a generic decline. See ChatGPT "Payment was not approved" and ChatGPT card declined.
• "Your card does not support this type of purchase" — Stripe's card_not_supported, which Stripe links to cross-border restrictions among other causes. See our guide to that message.

Paying with crypto: we pay your checkout link

If your bank won't enable foreign payments, we can pay for you. You open the ChatGPT upgrade page on your own account, copy the checkout link and send it to us with your order. Our person in the U.S. pays that link with a U.S. card. You pay us in crypto. No password is involved.

What to know before you order:

• It is monthly. Each renewal is a new order.
• Our card stays on the subscription until you change it. Cancel or replace it in your ChatGPT billing settings whenever you like.
• Stripe checkout links expire, by default 24 hours after they are created. Send a fresh link, and if ours expires before we pay it, we'll ask for a new one.
• Users on OpenAI's community forum have reported Plus accounts suspended after many accounts were paid with one shared card. We can't rule that out, and our refund covers only a payment we could not make.
