Cursor payment failed or card declined: causes and fixes
Cursor bills through Stripe. When the upgrade or a renewal fails, you see a short decline line, and the plan stays on Free or drops back to it. In most cases the refusal comes from your bank or from fraud rules, not from a problem with your Cursor account. Below is what Cursor itself recommends, why banks block it, and what to do when nothing goes through.
Why a Cursor payment fails
Cursor's payment issues page gives three pieces of advice: retry from the billing dashboard after you confirm "your card number, expiry, CVC, and billing address", "Try a different credit or debit card", and "Contact your bank to confirm online charges are enabled for this transaction". It does not publish a list of card types it refuses.
Behind those lines are the usual Stripe outcomes, from Stripe's decline codes reference:
- Your card was declined. Usually generic_decline: "The card was declined for an unknown reason or Stripe Radar or Adaptive Acceptance blocked the payment." Fraud codes such as fraudulent or stolen_card are shown the same way.
- Your card does not support this type of purchase. card_not_supported. Common with PIN-only debit cards and cards with cross-border limits. See our guide to that message.
- Authentication required. The bank wanted 3D Secure and it was not completed.
- Insufficient funds or a daily online limit lower than the plan price plus tax.
Banks block new merchants
A charge from a U.S. software company you have never paid before is exactly what bank fraud systems are built to stop. Replit's billing docs say it plainly: "Most declines come from your bank or card issuer, not Replit—often an automatic security block on an unfamiliar transaction." The same applies to Cursor. The bank may decline silently, or send a text asking you to confirm, and the checkout fails before you answer.
Revolut and other app banks
Users on developer forums report that app banks, Revolut most often named, declined the first Cursor charge or froze the card for review after it. We could not confirm a cause from an official source. If it happens to you, check the app for a security prompt, confirm the payment as yours, and retry only after the card is active again.
A card that worked for the first month can fail on renewal after it expires, is reissued or hits a new limit. Update it in the Stripe billing portal from Cursor's billing dashboard before retrying.

What to try first
- Check the details. In Cursor's dashboard, open billing and Manage Subscription; confirm number, expiry, CVC and billing address.
- Keep your banking app open and approve any 3D Secure or push prompt. If the prompt expires, start over.
- Enable online and international payments for the card and check the online limit.
- Ask your bank whether it refused a charge from Cursor and to allow it. Then retry once from the billing dashboard.
- Use a different credit or debit card in your own name, as Cursor suggests.
- Do not retry ten times in a row. Repeated attempts can trigger more fraud blocks. Space them out.
- Contact Cursor support from your signed-in account if the bank confirms it approved the charge but Cursor still shows a failure.
Personal plan on your own account, paid via its checkout link. Refund if we can't pay (minus the network fee).
OrderWhen nothing works: we pay your personal Cursor plan
Paidrelay pays the plan on your own Cursor account with our card, and you pay us in crypto. We use the link route:
- Open Cursor's upgrade checkout for the personal plan you want, signed in to your own account.
- Copy the payment link and place an order at /order?plan=other, with "Cursor", the plan name and its price.
- Pay the total in crypto. We pay the link and email you when it is done.
Stripe checkout links expire, by default 24 hours after they are created, so send a fresh one. Sign-in is only a last resort: then you stay online with us, and change your password afterwards. Sharing a login breaks most services' terms and the account could be restricted, so we avoid it.
The total: for any service outside our fixed catalog, the total is the plan price × 1.15, rounded up to the cent, shown as one number before you pay. Use the price Cursor shows at checkout, tax included. Cursor's pricing page listed the individual plan at about $20 a month before tax when we checked on 4 October 2026; tax depends on your country. More on how tax changes the final price is in AI subscription prices with tax.
Cursor's terms say you may not "rent, lease, lend, or sell the Service". We do not sell Cursor access or seats. We only pay the customer's own personal plan on the customer's own account. Team and business seats are not sold.
Delivery is usually within 2 hours of payment confirmation, 09:00–21:00 UTC, and at most 24 hours. If we can't complete the payment for your plan, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, minus only the network fee of the refund transfer. Details are on how it works and the FAQ. Paidrelay is not affiliated with Cursor or Anysphere.

OrderQuestions
Why does Cursor say my payment failed when my card works elsewhere?
A first charge from a foreign software company often trips the bank's fraud checks, and fraud rules at checkout can also block a card. Ask your bank whether it refused the charge, approve any security prompt, and retry once from Cursor's billing dashboard.
What does Cursor recommend for a declined card?
Cursor's payment issues page says to retry from the billing dashboard after checking the card details, to try a different credit or debit card, and to contact your bank to confirm online charges are enabled.
Can Paidrelay pay for a Cursor team plan?
No. We pay only a personal plan on your own Cursor account. Team and business seats are not sold, and we do not sell or rent Cursor access.
How is the total for a Cursor order calculated?
The total is the plan price shown at Cursor's checkout, tax included, multiplied by 1.15 and rounded up to the cent. You see it as one number before you pay.
Do I have to give you my Cursor password?
Normally no. You send us the payment link from Cursor's checkout and we pay it. Sign-in is a last resort, done while you are online with us, and you change the password afterwards.
